Commissioners Bawyer and Frey backed certificates for Assessor Stoddard and Dr. Lewis as Co Superintendent of Schools. Fogus opposed. Sinesig reports Justion Bradley of the United States Supreme Court will not resign before a new administration takes office. The Central Pacific withdraws from the association citing dissatisfaction with the arbitrator’s award. It claims California business earns 1934 per cent while feeders including Union Pacific Denver and Rio Grande and Burlington receive over 25 per cent. If true, the current agreement ends December 31 and a new formation must be debated.
Senator Warner Miller returns from New York amid talk of the senatorial contest. He opposes a movement to elect the President’s ally Warren to the Senate. The President denies seeking office while allies back Warren, a stance seen by some as masking his own ambitions.
Senator Bayard visited Albany to pay respects to the President-elect and returned home with assurances of a Cabinet appointment. He reportedly told Governor his preference for the Treasury portfolio and it is rumored he will be appointed to that office.

St John proclaims he never offered to sell out to Republicans and vows to press the liquor defense in 1888. He declares himself poor, rejects threats, and denounces GOP bitterness as intolerant rhetoric likened to the pro slavery era. He warns the opposing party will be hurt by obstructing the movement.
Reductions in wages and layoffs have lingered in Detroit with about 10,000 men out of work and many more facing pay cuts. Only three industries tobacco manufacturers furriers and crewers are affected. The city faces a broad economic downturn.

For years North Stonington sent turkeys to presidents including Grant Hayes and Arthur. A Providence buyer now places the order for the largest latest and best looking turkey for the White House. The town is famed for its excellent turkeys and Puritan tradition.
A typographical error in the Red Bluff Sentinel stated the prayer meeting at the M E Church would be hell to night. The mistake drew a crowded audience, and 13 converts joined the church as speakers inspired by the larger turnout.
Blaine yesterday morning dismissed his lawsuit against the Indianapolis Sentinel stating he could not obtain justice in Indiana.
Senator Miller reports a San Francisco telegraph petition of four thousand words urging ratification of the recently renewed Hawaiian treaty. The petition, presented in executive session, is considered an executive document as the treaty waits in executive ceasion.

A frontiersman recounts carrying a freezing child named Joe from a Deadwood snowbank. Joe, tiny as a bag of dust, saved by bundled blankets and grit, lost a foot to frostbite, but recovered with care. Doctors later amputated one foot, and plans spaced for Joe to be sent East to a hospital in New York to recover.
The San Francisco Bulletin cites the County Assessor showing Comstock mines and mills yielded 689 142 dollars in the quarter ending September 30, with production costs of 711 725 dollars.
