The Senate oath was given to Senators elect, resolutions adopted, and the President's message not submitted today. House proceedings showed 341 of 356 members present with Reed elected Speaker by 234 votes to 95 for Chap, with applause as Reed spoke. The President's message not sent to Congress and adjournment followed.
A recent storm at Odessa Russia has killed five hundred people. Other items report Holmes a multi murderer sentenced to death in Philadelphia after denial of a new trial. Additional notes include lynching in Fayetteville Tennessee and political maneuvers in the Senate.

Other posts filled include John Gulling Geo Holman and A G Spingler with C Ferrell R Sanders W Wright T Da Lamartyr W A Gould C Conn G H Thomas and Sedgewick Segrave Sessions on Auditing. The lodge is said to be the largest fraternal lodge in town and in prosperous condition.
Coroner Cochran held an inquest at Lovelocks into the deaths of Frank Messer the Indian Frank Jones, with witnesses at Wadsworth. The jury found Messer a Sonora native about 60 and Jones an Indian about 30, killed by a gunshot on November 21 in the county, with Monaco Echeverria possibly implicated. Testimony touched on the Washoe poisoning case and Echeverria’s alleged involvement in Messer and Jones murder.
