Silver Legislation And Silver Coinage Debate In Congress

The Excessive Committee of the New York Free Coinage League plans a Washington trip to push a bill raising silver bullion purchases from 4.5 million to 8 million ounces monthly. San Francisco Races Report from November 29

In San Francisco on November 29, Parametta won the nine-sixteenths of a mile race with Annie Moore second and Stoneman third in 52 seconds. Motto was disqualified in the seven furlongs, Garcia awarded the win, Mabel M second, Malcolm third in 1:34. Lady Marion led the two-year-olds over five furlongs with Sir Real second and Castro third in 1:06 34. Altus triumphed at siz and one-half furlongs for three-year-olds, Elkins was second and Cheerful third in 1:27. Moero won Siz and one-half furlongs, Princess Firat second, Certer B third in 1:19.

Convicts Escape Attempt Ends in a Killing at San Quentin

At San Quentin California on November 29 two convicts attempted to escape by scaling the balcony but were spotted by a guard who fired when they refused to halt. One convict Joseph Marshall was killed and Billy Miner was wounded and recaptured. The prisoners had drilled through their cell door and planned to escape with improvised gear. The coroner exonerated the guards, noting the shooting occurred in official discharge.
