Captain Lees dismissed a story tying Rev J George Gibson to the London pastor Jesse Gibson amid the Emmanuel Church murder probe. He traced Gibson’s career from Edinburgh college, found a Jesse Gibson classmate, and found no misconduct in Gibson’s life. Scotland Yard aided the inquiry, and Lees denied any London scandal connection to aid Durrant’s defense.

Four murderers Johnson Semler Null and Moreno were seized from the Siskiyou County jail in Yreka by a mob at 2 am and hanged in the jail yard. The mob overpowered Deputy Sheriff Radford, bound by Sheriff Hobbs, and carried out the executions within about twenty minutes. The victims faced their fate with little resistance, notably Semler who pleaded for mercy. The incident follows a spate of killings in Batley Hill and nearby towns fueling vigilante action. Also reported is the death of Mrs Stemmer in Volcano after a gun trap set by her son-in-law G Metz.
Dr Pritchard ex editor of the Sierra Valley Leader was shot after a dispute with Charles Laughlin a horse breaker known for fights. Laughlin fired twice striking the doctor in the breast and head grazed, a bullet lodged in a showcase. The doctor, a California pioneer and Odd Fellows member, has slight hopes of recovery. Laughlin is jailed as the case proceeds.
