The Washoe Republican party seeks unity to present a solid front in the upcoming election and avoid primary contests. Delegation to the State Convention should be unpledged yet support a strong ticket, with all factions urged to rally behind Washoe candidates to prevent bolting or discord. The Journal praises current good will and urges its preservation.
The Democratic nominating contest between Jowett W. Adams and Matt Canavan heats up with both optimistic of victory. Adams claims Lincoln White Pine Nye Lander Humboldt Churchill delegations. Canavan relies on Storey and gains in Elko Eureka and Douglas. Both sides claim Ormsby Esmeralda Lyon. Washoe may decide, possibly backing Senator Schooling if outsider needed.
The report notes Republican primary voters in Carson will select delegates for the County Convention on September 16 with the convention set for September 23. It also mentions scouring in Democratic circles over a alleged Esmeralda county gerrymander and lists four Republican candidates for Judge of the Ormsby and Douglas districts: S. H. Wright, C. N. Harrin, Trenmor Oefin, and D. W. Virgin, with J. R. Judge as the sole Democrat mentioned.
The county Republican leadership in Esmeralda calls primaries on the tenth to choose delegates. The statement claims no dissatisfaction to outsiders, asserting no job or trick in the delegation. The committee urges voters to reelect the same men as delegates.

The Chicago and Northwestern Railway issues its annual report for the twenty third fiscal year ending May 31, 188. It shows gross earnings of 23,684,656 dollars with working expenses of 12,639,634 dollars. Fixed charges total 5,666,996 dollars and net earnings equal 5,378,075 dollars.
From Waynesburg Pennsylvania two young sisters Cora and Marietta Storm lured their step mother to a spring house assaulted her with a wood billet and one sister stabbed her heart with a darning needle. The girls are daughters of a Methodist preacher. The tale seems unbelievable.
The Lyon county candidates for delegate to the Republican State Convention are Thos. P. Mack of Silver City, W. A. Rulison of Dayton, Ges. W. Shaw of Suatra, and W. Crowninshield (Pony) from the districts of Como, Mound House, Wabuska and Ft. Churchill.
The Cherry Creek News notes White Pine Republicans show interest in one state office the Controllership. A solid delegation from White Pine will travel to pledge support for William Timsor of Hamilton for the position.
The Plumas National notes a rock sharp pow wow in Nevada about large tracks discovered in solid rock. It mentions a Lassen county girl arising in ancient times and a recent English marriage where the bride was attended by a page in yellow satin and gold hat.
Former Senator Mitchel will fill the Gregon seat. He intends to continue his profession, yet friends urge he accept the Senatorship which he has agreed to take.
Judge Thos. Wells rejects Bid for Lieutenant Governor yet would accept the Republican nomination for State Senator of Esmeralda county. Storey Republicans likely to nominate Ton Gracey for Assessor. Tom, a party-versed string man, plans a strong run. Lyon Democrats mention John Lothrop of Dayton for State Controller. Storey Grand Jury reports two more true bills against Miles Finton.
August 1 1881 in Washington the Corcorans Blaines and Camerons celebrate as the Potomac swamps reclamation bill passes local issues note the plan by Major Twining to create parks lakelots and riverfront improvements north of the railroad bridge with bulkhead work and a new riverfront basin under way since 1872 amid political shifts and a long Congress session.
In San Francisco a former Democratic Police Judge presided as a lawyer mocked Republican friends during a trial. A prominent Chinese witness, naturalized in Cincinnati, declares he is a Democrat who always voted the Democratic ticket, leaving the attorney embarrassed and the judge smiling.
Charley, owner of the Stoph er corner, grows daily in fame for his fine lanches and excellent beer. A single call will suffice to prove he is a big draw among his list of friends.
Dan Wheeler, noted sheep man, left horse and buggy in front of Cookes corner. The horse bolted toward the engine house dragging the buggy and nearly wrecking posts. Wheeler almost seized the bridle but the horse escaped, then raced to the bridge before being captured unharmed. It marks the second runaway here in seven days.
A Reno rancher Mr Carroll, long single, marries on a Thursday evening, presenting a curious example to youths about marriage age. The piece extols matrimony across ages from sixteen to twenty five, praising a sixty plus man taking a bride as especially meaningful.
Sheridan California August 12 1882 report notes George Yankee arrives to be a local hero among high school students by the Bay. The old Newfoundland dog Bounce traveled with Yankee’s wagon and was left after heat exhaustion near Wheatland Bear River bridge where he collapsed and rested.
John Kaneen of Virginia City was appointed last Saturday as Grand Representative to the Sovereign Grand Lodge from this state to fill the vacancy caused by Wm. Prince's resignation. The Sovereign Grand Lodge meets in Baltimore on September 18.
The Eureka Leader reports a Reno drawing on October 4 offering four prizes: 60 acres of Nevada land, a Reno house and lot, a pair of carriage horses, and a piano. Tickets cost $1 to fund rebuild of the Catholic School after a fire. Sisters Mary Rose and Mary Joseph promote sales. Also mentions a passenger’s profane pursuit of departing Overland cars and routine daily mishaps.
East side ranchers along the Little Humboldt are stacking vast hay quantities for winter feed. H C Stewart reports over 400 tons and L W Crutcher about 1800 tons on Paradise and Piute Valley ranches. Other area growers also amass hay amid a rising beef market. Cattle speculators appear at many points seeking to buy and even offer slight above market value, with a hoped dominance of the beef market by next winter.
The invitation tickets to Professor Orvis Ring's reception are undated leaving recipients unsure of the morning noon or evening timing. The committee should rectify the omission immediately to inform attendees.

Last week John Hoy, deputy constable, shipped over two hundred hogs by rail to Comstock, earning seven to eight cents per pound. A reception for Mr Ring is planned at the Nevada Theatre at 8 o clock, day to be determined after his Reno arrival, with a Saturday arrival pushing the reception to Monday. Early Monday night a large hay stack burned near Al Longley or Boynton property, with Constable Avery and a Journal reporter confirming the conflagration. The blaze consumed over 130 tons of hay, some of which was insured, while the exact owner remained uncertain due to the distance between locations.
