Charles Stebbins Fairchild born April 30, 1842 in Cazenovia New York. He educated at Cazenovia Methodist Seminary Harvard College 1859 1863 Harvard Law School 1865 admitted to bar joined Hand Hale Swartz Fairchild law firm Deputy Attorney General 1874 Attorney General nominee elected 1875 two years later practiced in New York City before becoming Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in 1886.
