The Battle Field of Magenta Described by a Correspondent
A London News correspondent reports from Magenta on June 7 1859 about the recent battle described as glorious and bloody. He notes trees felled by artillery bodies strewn and towns damaged with farms and vineyards ruined. The report recounts French and Imperial Guard units holding against 25000 Austrians under Gen Zubel, the French losses including generals and officers, and the eventual Austrian defeat as Gen McMahon's maneuvers split their army and compelled retreat toward Adda and Cremona.

Italian Crown Offered After Magenta Victory
After the battle of Magenta, Victor Emmanuel slept on the field and was visited by Milan’s Town Council deputation offering him the Lombard crown. Napoleon III’s presence underscored France’s support for Italian freedom from the Alps to the Adriatic as reported in The Detriot Tribune. The issue also covers an attempted derailment plot against the City of Buffalo steamer, details of a love scandal, and coal production in Pennsylvania reaching nearly one million and a quarter tons.
