Horrific Field After Battle Described by Telegraph

A London Telegraph correspondent on June 28 1859 visits Guidizzolo a day after the clash and portrays heaps of dead in groups of twenty or thirty. He observes mangled corpses in shell craters and amid battle debris, noting a Bohemian officer, a Tyrolean, a Croat and two sixteen year old lads in embrace among the gore. A dog guards a fallen master as death stares from all sides in a grim, ghastly scene.
