Late Yankee Raid in the Valley Rumored
Richmond Dispatch reports from Orange county that a seven hundred strong raiding party moved along the Orange and Alexandria line, burned part of a Rapidan railroad bridge and Holladay’s mill, seeking Mosby who allegedly passed through that route homeward. Aimed to seize Mosby, he reached Richmond via Central railroad that evening, with false rumors of his arrival in Amherst. Other notes mention Forrest near Sherman's lines and Beauregard’s move to the Army of Tennessee with President Davis, plus Confederate officers arriving in Richmond by flag of truce. The paper also asks for payment to continue printing and lists several NC officers, while noting a healthy milch cow in Salem area died after cane seed penetration.
