Confederate Ordnance Authority Seizes Cavalry Arms Across North Carolina
July 26 1864 Brigadier General Rufus Barking Ger authorized to take possession of cavalry arms and accoutrements from civilians or unauthorized persons in North Carolina. All arms left by troops or enemy, or sold to non military persons, are Confederate property. Officers only may dispose of arms under Ordnance rules. Citizens urged to return saddles rifles and other equipment to brigade, with receipts. Reimbursement provided for reasonable expenses.
