The Confederate announces subscription options from A. M. Gorman & Co. with daily, tri weekly, and weekly editions available for six months. Conscriptions will be received on any other terms than those listed for longer or shorter periods.
The Weekly Confederate summarizes a Cary Conservative gathering condemning editors in Raleigh and Knoxville, cites Holden as divisive, and urges Holden to join the army. It notes Wyatt J. Holleman and others crafting resolutions supporting limited government and local speech, while lamenting intraparty feuds and candidate favoritism.
The report notes Washington evacuated on the 1st, enemy forces and artillery moved to Newbern. Gen. Hoke nearby preparing another Plymouth-like action, but Union troops retreated toward New Bern. Pickets from Col. Whitford's regiment were captured around the evacuation time. no clear plans for Newbern movements are given.

A Florida report claims the Yankee transport Hunter was torpedoed and destroyed in the St Johns River near Palatka and Jacksonville. Several Yankee officers were aboard and perished. a witness notes the vessel’s loss within recent days amid wartime observations.
A Baldwin county planter suggests garlic boiled with corn fed to hogs prevents cholera and asks pork producers to try and report results to the public. Pierre Soule denies Confederate gossip about taking his wife and fleeing. Prices: green peas $10 per half peck, $80 per bush, straw berries $19 per quart, beef $2.50, pork and mnut ton $3, fowls $12 to $15 per pair.
Tim reports Albermarle Sound waters in quiet possession. Local fisheries are productive under community effort. Provisions secured after Plymouth exceed expectations, and the opened country will supply food for a large army for many months.
