The fourth anniversary show of Southwark Cantra Society at St Helena tavern Rotherhithe displayed fine dahlias and exotic plants with rich devices. Prizes were well received, gardens lit at night, and crowds thronged the grounds. Other shows at Surrey Zoological Gardens and Wandsworth followed with impressive displays, fireworks, and patronage from local gentry. Westminster improvements and a government plan to widen streets were noted.
