Sale at Stowe plate sale attracts high prices amid rare pieces

The Stowe plate sale opens with a flat day selling spoons and forks to London dealers, then a busier day ranking rarities. Highlights include a powder belt to the Marquis of Chas des and Napoleon's Supper Tray, with prices soaring as bidders from Buckingham and London compete. The auction continues with ornate ewers, vases, and a Grenville-era epergne, drawing crowds and notable buyers such as Mr. Robarts, Mr. Emanuel, and Mr. Redfern. A grand test piece, centering on a Duke of Buckingham tribute, is withdrawn after subscriber funds are secured.

Land Reclaimed by Middleton and Dutch Workers Legend

The narrative recounts Middleton guiding a project to reclaim New River land from the sea with Dutch laborers using embankments and piles. It claims kingly approval, a baronetcy patent to Sir Hugh, and a mythic treasure hidden near a well lined with antique mercury, with tales of elfin labor before storms and eventual land loss.

Release of bankrupts under new Tax Act provisions

The act empowers Court of Bankruptcy commissioners to order immediate release from prison for debtors adjudged bankrupt who hold protection from arrest, or who are later in execution, with conditions as deemed fit.
