Commission report on Yorkshire lead mines details how valley geography enables adits and water power, the miners homes and health risks. It notes asthma prevalence, air quality, dust and powder fumes, and compares northern districts with Cornwall, plus mortality rates in six counties.
The report notes higher pulmonary disease mortality among lead miners aged over twenty five versus nonminers, with lower rates for youths aged fifteen to twenty five. It cites poor air quality in many mines, shallow depths, and limited exposure to cold, alongside living conditions and surface work as protective factors.
Fourth annual dinner of the Operative Coachmakers Benevolent Society leads to a February 1865 Industrial Exhibition in London to showcase design and skill of carriage workers. Employers and operatives form a provisional committee with Society of Arts backing and a petition to the Worshipful Company of Coach and Coach Harness Makers for hall use and judges. Public meeting held October 26, 1864 to nominate a committee and seek patronage and participation.
