Royal visit delayed by weather and rail plan home

Aberdeen reports Her Majesty the Queen abandoned the planned two o’clock sea voyage to London due to rain and mist. She traveled by rail to Perth and then onward, while crowds gathered along the quay as the royal party moved through the city in a closed carriage.

Fatal Railway Accident on Rother Viaduct Near Beighton

A Beighton area disaster on the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway destroyed the upper arches of the Rother viaduct under construction. Three carpenters Henry Whiteman George Relcliffe and James Mott died. one survivor William Lamb survived with injuries. Coroner's inquest blamed insufficient foundations.
