Money Market and City Intelligence Update

The English funds opened heavy but closed with an advance of a half to three quarters per cent on last Saturday's prices. Consols fluctuated, dipping early then rising, with later weakness as figures from Paris influenced sentiment. Foreign stocks were subdued, railway shares languid, and gold exchange differentials shifted between Paris and London. An announced June bill rate cut and French fund strength supported Consols briefly, but idle activity persisted and prices eased again into the close.

Weather shifts dull corn trade and steady wheat prices

The weather influences the corn market with favorable wheat conditions depressing sales and reducing buyer demand beyond retail needs. Spring corn shows firmness with anticipated rain. Wheat remains dull at Monday’s prices while Indian corn, barley, malt, peas, and beans stay relatively dear. Oats are in short supply with higher prices. Arrivals show limited English wheat and light foreign imports, with demand heavy but prices largely unchanged. barley and malt are firm, oats steady, and beans and peas weaker as inquiries slow. Railway share list noted.
