Dangers of a Drowning Scene and a Great Fire in Dunstable
A detailed 19th century report describes a dramatic London river incident with a well dressed woman throwing her shawl and bonnet into the river, wading at knee depth, then walking away. It also records a drowning near Hungerford Market after a small boat collision, and a catastrophic fire in Dunstable destroying 21 houses, with extensive property loss and delayed firefighting, followed by official inquiries and coast-to-coast reactions.
