Right of rector to preside over parish meetings upheld in church wardens case

Lord Denman rules the rector has the power to direct parish meetings and vote on poll adjournments for churchwardens at St Mary, Lamgern, and that the poll must be taken immediately unless other business forces adjournment. The ruling rejects Haughton v Reynolds expansion and discharges the rule for mandamus. In the Otters case the court also finds voting rights extend beyond show of hands and that poll demands are exercisable. The other matters concern habeas corpus and a Middlesex sessions appeal over rating a theatre box.
