Frank H. Newman, wealthy stock raiser and landowner of Griggsville, was arrested on December 13, 1900, charged with the murder of Michael Corcoran. Corcoran was shot from ambush in his cornfield after a dispute over a division fence and other matters.
In a Minonk Woodford County fire that destroyed the home of Joseph Tomashiski a Polish miner his 13 year old daughter and 11 year old son were burned to death. The blaze followed an attempt by the daughter to start a fire in the kitchen stove with gasoline.
A 13 year old from Scotland County died instantly when he was struck by a butcher knife carried by his brother after the horse bolted. The younger sibling rode behind the brother and the knife, kept in the hip pocket, penetrated the boy’s heart and caused death. The incident involves Thornton McDaniel and occurred in Scotland County. Further details are not provided in the fragment.

In San Francisco an Italian feud exploded into two pistol duels leaving three men wounded, one possibly fatally. Philip Caldarella lies wounded in hospital with a head wound, George King is shot in the hip, and George Orlando wounded in the hand. The battle began at a Main street brass foundry when George Manganini fired on Orlando, who returned fire. Caldarella, urged by family ties, pursued Orlando, wounding his uncle Philip and shooting at Policeman Mackie and Mike Caldarella, though none of those bullets hit. The clash stems from disputed property interests and family enmity.
Jeffersonville Ind November 15 Newell C Rathbun suspected of poisoning Charles Goodman in a local hotel was identified by an officer and an acquaintance from Little Rock Ark Rathbun pleaded not guilty at arraignment before Mayor Rader and was held without bond The circuit court will convene in special term Monday with a grand jury to consider Rathbun s case
