Weekly Crop Bulletin for Springfield Alabama May Week
Week of warm dry weather allowed plowing and seeding progress while a late April frost damaged fruits and tender vegetation. Snow fell in the north, rainfall was below average later in the week, and corn plowing continued with some planting. Wheat stands deteriorated in many areas as cold conditions slowed germination and growth. Fruit trees suffered most, with strawberries killed and grapes damaged. Potatoes planting progressed but frost nipped tender plants on May 1, delaying gardening.
