Negro Desperado Taken From Peoria Jail
John McCray the colored desperado who killed Detective W E Murphy was removed from the county jail through a rear door shortly after noon Wednesday. He rode to Pottstown and boarded a Chicago Burlington and Quincy train for Galesburg where he will be imprisoned until trial. A mob gathered outside the jail but was dispersed after officials assured a special fund jury would be summoned and the trial held promptly. A six member mob committee was allowed to search the building to prove McCray was gone. Several colored prisoners were moved to the work house to avoid an outbreak.
