River Navigation Plan Aims at Ohio River Improvement
The annual report by Col. Amos Stickney outlines a broad program to deepen channels across islands and bars, build movable dams and dikes, and dredge to improve Ohio River navigation from Pittsburgh to Mound City. Work progresses with locks at Davis Island and near Beaver, snags removed by boat and dredges, and site surveys for dams 2 through 5. The plan is progressive and funding dependent, reflecting the river's vast length and growing regional commerce.
