William J. Rhodes, the oldest living native of McLean county, marked his seventy fifth birthday at Ar Rhodes' home in Blooming Grove Louisiana. Born on the farm where he still resides, he gathered a large group of pioneer residents from McLean and nearby counties for the celebration.

At Farmjington, Maid Hall, aged 19, and Sadie Laman ters, aged 16, attempted suicide by morphine after parental opposition to marriage. The young man was saved, but Sadie Laman ters died. the mother opposed the union.
