In Stroupspare Pennsylvania on February 10 Jesse B. Palmer a 24 year old dies when a chimney falls on him while fighting a house fire at the Wollinshead residence. The dwelling is destroyed and a rescue attempt by Palmer preceded a missing fireman Nevil who is believed fatally injured. The Wollinshead family narrowly escapes with their lives. Palmer recently married and his wife is said to be grieved.
Newburyport Mass February 10 The three masted schooner Florida of New York went ashore on Salisbury beach. Seven men were aboard and lashed to the masts as a lifeline attempt failed. No nearby life saving station complicates rescue. By nine to ten o'clock two bodies were found. five men believed aboard may have perished.
