Identity cleared up as John and George Clark confess at Mt Vernon Illinois to being sought in Kentucky for a 31 year arson and safe wrecking sentence. They claim Governor Brown commuted their terms and say release is near. Indiana authorities will arrest them after Kentucky sentence ends. They are believed to be John and George Reeves accused in the 1885 deputy sheriff killings of Cos and Gardner.
John Heath was found dead in front of his family home in Annawan. His father, Police Magistrate J D Heath, was worried about his missing son and began an inquiry in town. A stab to the neck severed the jugular vein, and authorities believe the death is a murder.
Chief of Police Hamoney of Cairo arrested a railroad worker calling himself George W. Wilson. He is clad in leg irons and may have escaped from an officer. About 5 feet tall, 150 pounds, 30s age, dark hair, sandy mustache, two right hand fingertips missing, silent on identity. Frank Berkhimer, a farmer from seven miles east of Altamont, hanged himself in his granary using a chain, found by family with feet barely touching ground.
Mrs. G. G. Richards, a Carterville saloon keeper, was shot in the right temple by an 8 caliber revolver while handling the weapon at the home of James McGowan. Coroner's jury returned a sealed verdict in the fatal incident.
Nearly every resident in Scott and Northern Greene counties was awakened by a blast from a magazine near the rock cut on the Burlington about two miles south of Winchester. The detonation involved about 2,000 pounds of powder and dynamite.

Charles U. Hinckley alias C M Morris is jailed in Concenuity for stealing 97000 from the West Side Bank New York where he served as teller. He vanished in 1884 and resurfaced in 1899 after a Columbia hotel fire drew a detective. he was arrested but released on a technicality.
Wreck of passenger train No.5 on the Evie railroad near Greens Bridge, Greenville, Pa, kills five and injures ten. A broken rail joint caused a sharp curve derailment on a steep embankment by the Little Shenango river. Rescue efforts followed as engineers and passengers were pulled from the wreck and taken to Meadville hospital.
The Lehigh Valley milk and paper train from New York wrecked at Green's Dr, N J, four miles below Easton. Traveling 40 mph, a main rod strap broke near a 120 foot bridge, throwing the locomotive and ten cars off rails. The engine and several cars teetered on ties, then stopped after 300 yards. Cars suffered damage. crew and passengers were unharmed.
In Pittsburgh on February 8 the Pennsylvania Limited Express rear-ended the Cleveland Express at the Allegheny Avenue crossing. The limited engine and the Cleveland sleeper were wrecked. Only one passenger, Henry Lubland of New York, was seriously injured. several others had minor bruises. Failure to flag the freight train is cited as the collision cause.
New York data show a 1900 defalcations total of 8,090,578 dollars in the United States and Canada, an increase of about 3,000,000 over 1899, per statistics from a leading fidelity company.
