Old Pear Trees in Jarvia Township and Edwardsville
A 19th century pear tree on the Side place on lower Main Street, planted circa 1814 by Thomas Kirkpatrick, once Edwardsville’s proprietor. It rose to 60 to 70 feet, yielded heavy crops, and was partially cut to avoid storage issues. Another old tree near Col. Tanne Prickett’s place, now Col. Eberhardt’s, stands over 40 feet high with frequent large crops. The notes dispute exact planting dates and claim to be the oldest tree, citing memory gaps and local pride.
