Alleged Confederate Major Sloss in Illinois Shooting
Maj J H Sloss formerly of Alabama and now a Confederate veteran shot and killed George F Long of Tuscombia Washington while visiting last Sunday eve. Sloss, once Edwardsville IL resident, returned to Alabama at outbreak of war and joined the Confederate army. he had earlier served in the Illinois state senate during the Lincoln Douglas campaign.
