Fort St John Lumber Buys Out Junction Mills

Fort St John Lumber Company confirmed it will purchase Junction Mills Ltd assets and timber holdings. The planer and sawmill at Chetwynd will relocate to Hasler Creek near Chetwynd. A barker and chipper may be installed to supply chips for a Prince George pulp mill.

Fort Nelson Pipeline Bid Window Set for November

The Vancouver Journal of Commerce reports bids close November 4 for a 100 million pipeline gathering system from Fort Nelson to Chetwynd. Construction may begin in 1964 with initial capacity of 350 million cubic feet daily, rising to 650 million. Westcoast Transmission has secured rights of way and called tenders for the field gathering system.

Hotel to Start New Addition at Chetwynd Hotel

Plans for a U shaped two story addition forming part of the Chetwynd Hotel proceed with a start anticipated next week. The wing will house seventeen rooms on the upper floor and five on the ground floor adaptable to suites, plus ground floor spaces for a bank drug store and barber shop. The Evergreen Roan will be modernized into a small banquet room and sample rooms will be available for commercial travellers. The hotel aims to be one of the district’s largest.

Sun Oil Takes Over Wales Well Over Sullivan Pure Chetwynd

Sun Oil has assumed operation of the Sullivan Pure Chetwynd oil well in Wales from October 11. Drilling will continue to an undisclosed depth as speculation mounts about the project. The well has seen varied activity since last year with a small rig and later a larger rig under Regent Drilling, but information remains scarce.
