Kiewit awards major subcontracts for Peace Power Dam
Kiewit awarded two large subcontracts for the Peace Power Dam at Portage Mountain. A Quebec firm won the $3.5 million foundation drilling contract, using cement under high pressure to seal rock faults. Intermountain Construction Ltd of Vancouver won a $1 million contract to drill about 10 000 feet of drainage tunnels. Interest grows in gold potential in the river bed as the full river flow is diverted through three tunnels and reportedly runs 15 feet deep in each.

Business as usual for Phil signals power project bids
After the election, Phil announced eight tendered projects totaling about five million dollars. They include twelve miles of Hudson Hope to Chetwynd road near the Peace damsite and eight miles south of the river. Contracts would start with the new bridge area as work progresses on the Peace Power Project.
