Fort St John Lumber Company officials say that with suitable road conditions timber from Hudson Hope and Peace Power Reservoir operations will be processed by the Chetwynd Mill. The company already runs five logging operations in the area.
For the fourth time in eight months residents of the Sukunka Valley and Lone Prairie are cut off from civilization. The Ferry at Twidwell Bend was out of operation last Sunday due to high water in the Sukunka and Pine rivers. The Moberly S.Y.U. Lumbermen Association has pressed for a bridge at the crossing while the Department of Forestry claims jurisdiction.
Local businessman John Rainer is converting his property two blocks north of the Hotel into a laundromat. Plumbing and wiring are roughed in, concrete floor to be poured, and hot water heating to be installed, with the project nearing completion in a central, convenient location.
A Saskatchewan doctor Dr McIntyre and his brother visited Chetwynd on Monday with their wives to review local business prospects and conditions. The physician who has practiced in Saskatchewan for five years plans to leave if the Provincial Government pushes ahead with its Medical Care plan as proposed. The main objection centers on granting broad power to Civil Service administration to make rules.
Plans discuss forming a flying club if enough young men show interest. With three licensed pilots in the community and five to six others wanting to fly, organizers seek a nearby approved airstrip and envision buying a plane with Dawson instructor visits.
