Four Day Deluge Halts District Construction
The four day rain has halted all outside construction and filled district roads with water filled holes. Over an inch of rain each day since Monday has swollen creeks and rivers though larger rivers are not expected to flood. smaller streams cause trouble. Highway No 2 at Pouce Coupe risks washouts with a Bailey bridge used for traffic. Alaska Highway is rough while Hart Highway remains good where not under construction. Pipeline and earth moving work is stopped and local streets show collapsed excavations. A week of sun is needed before normal conditions return and 1964 work may be delayed.

Hospital survey August plans expansion and new grain elevator site
The August 12 survey date set by Health for hospital needs in Chetwynd and Hudson Hope areas is announced. Gordon Moore informs the Advertiser the Dawson Creek PGE branch east of Chetwynd will host a new grains and feed elevator on about 60 acres, with a feed lot run by Moore. The hospital census and capacity, plus district expansion including Fort St John Lumber, are also noted.

Pipeline Cleared to Proceed with Fort Nelson Gas Line
Legal hurdles delaying the Fort Nelson gas pipeline have been resolved and contractors are poised to complete the line by the target date. Pipe has been distributed and river crossings completed, with rain as the only remaining delay.

Chetwynd High School to Receive $225 000 Addition
A school referendum by School District 59 for this fall includes a $225 000 allocation for a Chetwynd High School expansion. The plan adds an auditorium science labs library shops classrooms and art rooms with concrete block and brick construction. The vote funds upgrades to several district schools to add classrooms and raise standards.
