Peace River dam conveyor backbone planned for Forage Mountain project
Kiewit Dawon Johnson partners will build 600 foot high Forage Mountain Dam across the Peace River with a 54 foot wide conveyor system from Western Bridge Canada Iron Foundries Ltd. The system will move 60 million cubic yards of material by 1968 and be among the longest single flight belts in the world. Design is by Canada Iron in collaboration with Pohlige Heckel Bleichert of Cologne. Delivery capacity exceeds 12 000 tons per hour with main belt length near three miles and auxiliary conveyors feeding the processing complex. A Sentenial Committee has formed in Chetwynd to study a potential centennial project and invites suggestions via the Village Office.
