Alaska Quake Felt Here In Chetwynd And Area
A strong Alaska earthquake last Friday rattled Chetwynd with 30 second tremor and a follow up movement five minutes later. Willow Flats reports a large crack attributed to the quake while Alberni Port Alberni on Vancouver Island and even California saw tidal effects. Authorities estimate about 100 lives lost near Anchorage with damages in the hundreds of millions as Alaska’s sparsity limited further casualties.

Power line project links Dawson Creek and Chetwynd plants
Erection along the route progresses with 175 miles of conductor stringing. The new line will connect B C Hydro’s Dawson Creek power plant with the Chetwynd plant, now expanded. It will tie the Peace River towns Fort St John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Hope, plus the Portage Mountain site. Two 300 kilowatt units have been added to Chetwynd.

Pine River Lumber planer destroyed by fire near Taylor
The Pine River Lumber Company planer and its power unit plus a shed burned April 24 about 18 miles southwest of Taylor. Loss estimated at 5000 dollars. Fire believed started from sparks from the slab burning pit. Jen Hetu is company president and M L Malapert secretary treasurer.

Hydro Rates Cut Again Across British Columbia Power
