Murder charge surfaced in Eagle Grove stabbing case

Irving Wren is in custody after allegedly stabbing Geo Wendell in Eagle Grove with a jack knife following a dispute over liquor money. Wendell, a butcher, is seriously wounded but expected to recover. Wren, 25, previously lived in the area and surrendered after the attack. no arraignment date set until Wendell’s condition stabilizes.

Dolly Varden delights Webster City in big musical

A large Webster City audience praised the amateur production Dolly Varden at the armory opera house. Maude Soule as Dolly displayed charm and a fine voice. Will B. Rood played Captain Belville. The show featured Prof A. E. Bullock Ernest F. Robinson Mrs W H Cook and local groups including the Elks and the Choral Club.

Webster City Radiator Plant Prospects Sought

No new developments emerge on rebuilding the Webster City Steel Radiator plant. Negotiations with Great Western Heater of Des Moines for a consolidation continue, with stockholders deciding to circulate the subscription paper and reconvene for a definite pledge and plan.

Oscar Short Scheduled for Clarion to Hayfield Mail Run

Oscar Short will move from this city to Clarion to take a new mail clerk run between Clarion and Hayfield on the Chicago Great Western. He has recently worked on the Central between this city and Dubuque and on the Dubuque to Chicago route. The new run offers shorter hours making it more desirable.

C. D. Hellen arrived in Des Moines as a public speaker and quickly drew demand at public functions. He jokes that he has never given a formal speech in his life, yet shines in gabfests, while a public man who can't speak well is at a handicap in the city.

Tragic Freight Death of Roy H. McGuire in Manchester

Roy H. McGuire, Fireman on an Illinois Central freight, fell from moving cars near Manchester between 12 and 1 a.m. He was 30, leaving a wife, three children, and his parents in Waterloo and Manchester. He had lived in the area since childhood and worked with the Central railroad, with a promotion to engineer anticipated.

City Water Improves After Source Identified

State Chemist reports water sample shows great improvement though not yet normal. City officials traced impurity to a surface water entering a near non-pumping well and remedied the issue. Ongoing work on mains and tank continues to restore clean supply. Waudena Hunter, Mason City girl, remains in critical condition after bicycle accident on a sidewalk. Webster City sidewalks breach criticized as ordinance enforcement lags.
