The Webster City high school class of 1911 presented The Deacon at the armory opera house to a full house with strong performances. Fred Metcalf as Matt Wheeler and Guy Whitley as the deacon led an capable cast, with notable turns by Margaret Chamberlin and Melita Mickelson. The melodrama ended with virtue triumphant and the audience pleased by the amateur production. A Washington dispatch followed noting Senator Kenyon involved in assisting an American detained in Mexico.

Innocent Bystander Shot in Denver Hotel Tragedy
J W Atkinson of Colorado Springs brother of C B Atkinson Webster City is wounded when a St Louis man fires in a Denver Brown hotel smoking room. The shooter killed one man and wounded Atkinson and his friend. all three victims were prominent in St Louis. The assailant is jailed awaiting trial.

Iowa crops grow rapidly amid heat and varying rain
Des Moines reports show weeklong ideal farm conditions with average temperatures 6 to 10 degrees above normal and mainly light to heavy showers. Corn stands well, some replanting due to worm damage on sod, wheat heading in southern counties, hay below average, potatoes thriving despite many pests, fruit and gardens promising.
