Corperal I A Bonebright recounts experiences from May 1898 enlistment to Sept 1898 42d Iowa Volunteers. Mrs Fr Beal visiting in Woolstock. Mr and Mrs John Smith of Wilbur WA visiting near Kamrar. Miss Eleah Himmel of Radcliffe return from Chautauqua. Mrs A T Martin and daughter Nelle leaving for Eldora to ship goods to Prairie City for Rev Martin’s pastorate. Mrs Robert Pelz, Mrs A G Shillinglaw, and Miss Letha Bisbee of Blairsburg visiting.
Miss Helen Bauman of Sioux City arrived for an extended visit with grandmother Mrs. Mary Bauman and relatives. Mrs. Fred Claman of Jewell visited Sioux City on route home after staying with her son Sam Glaman in Fort Dodge. Miss Hazel Johnson returned to Ames after visiting the G. Haldeman family on Water Street. her sister in law Rhoda Johnson joined her for a few days. Willy Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Winter, traveled to Mason City to spend a week or ten days with relatives and old friends, his former home. Miss Clara Oesch returned to Ogden after visiting her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. D. Klein on West First Street. Mrs. Levert Hullstad and nephew Glenn Hullstad, Jewell, returned home yesterday.
Herbert Higbee, the 22 months old son of Mr and Mrs M C Higbee of Powell South Dakota, died early Wednesday from colitis at the Eugene Lasher home after traveling from Des Moines with his mother and brother. The father arrived Monday. Surviving are the mother, father and a four year old brother Cecil. Relatives in the city include Mr and Mrs J H Higbee Mr Irving Lasher and Miss Agnes Moore. Funeral services were held yesterday at 4:30 pm at the Eugene Lasher home conducted by Rev J O Staples. Interment will be at Philip South Dakota, the family’s old home.
Peter Froling of Cass, owner of the John Garth farm, visited town Monday. He is feeding over sixty head of cattle and about four carloads of hogs in his pens and feed yards. A flowing well and a creek run through his feed lots with ample shade, making hogs prosper. Froling says he knows how to feed cattle and hogs.
Mrs. Leah Ball-Ferrell is very ill and the attending physician says unless her condition improves soon she will be compelled to submit to an operation for tumor.
