Ann Arbor Mich Feb 20 Professor Alexander Winchell died at 1 a m Thursday. He was attended by his immediate family except one daughter in Berlin. Brother B Robertson Winchell of Chicago was present. Observances will be announced by the University of Michigan. Winchell, born 1834 in Dutchess County NY, taught geology zoology and botany at several universities and directed Michigan geological surveys. He was elected president of the Geological Society of America and held distinguished professorships in multiple institutions.
