Lake, Feb 22 Mrs Guy Roberts wife of a Marathon area farmer was murdered Monday at 7 am in the summer kitchen. Henry Johnson the hired man attacked her without warning with a knife and cut her head to pieces before fleeing. The motive is unknown and the case remains a deep mystery with the assailant described as a possible maniac.
Des Moines report: George Arlington, after drink and conflict with his sister in law Sarah Arlington over living arrangements, slashed her throat and attempted suicide with a razor near West Highth street and Grand avenue. Pedestrians intervened. both victims were rushed to Methodist hospital and are expected to recover. Arlington owns a lunch room on site. the couple's child watched the struggle.
Nellie Taylor a 19 year old Des Moines woman went on trial before Judge De Graff in the district court charged with murdering her baby in Union Park last summer. Attorney James M Parsons and County Attorney Thomas J Guthrie spent Monday morning arguing for juror selection. twelve jurors were seated late yesterday as opening statements began.
Miss Blanche Hancock daughter of the late J. T. Hancock died at her mother's home in Dubuque. She had lived in Boston for four years and two years was connected with Dana Hall Wellesley College.
