Washington December 17 Rep John Sharp Williams of Mississippi reintroduced the Blaine bill to admit all American hemisphere products free of duty where exporters face no duties and reciprocal access to US ports. The measure is pitched as a farmers aid with Blaine and McKinley having backed it in committee while Republicans opposed it. Senator Frye sworn in as president pro tempore. Thirty workers from California arrive to aid the Goldfield consolidated mines as a strikebreakers camp is prepared for 600 men. Over 100 men go to work, with three shifts planned. the Nevada reduction works also to start with eight men. The Goldfield Mine Owners Association accuses the Western Federation of Miners of being a restraint of trade and treasonable group in a Roosevelt commission submission.
Topeka Dec 17 The Commonwealth Fire Insurance company of Texas and the German Fire Insurance company of Indiana had their licenses revoked by State Superintendent Barnes by telegraph. The action follows a suit brought by the attorney general charging a combination to control fire insurance rates in the state.
