Iowa Falls reports W L Weaver son of a state supreme court justice, missing last spring, has appeared in the U S Navy. State officials race to bring him back for trial on forgery charges amid questions of legal authority to requisition a Navy member and his use of an assumed name William L Walpre. Weaver, once a practicing attorney, faced charges since March over bogus loan papers linked to W A Biggs of Iowa Falls.

Case Against Teachers Is Dismissed
The Bibbings family, after consulting with the school board president, decided not to prosecute Miss Julia Beach Miss Rose Dygert and Otto Wendelberg over an alleged severe whipping of 11 year old Harry Bibbings. The charges were dismissed at the police station. the exact terms of the agreement with school authorities remain undisclosed. Verdict for Damages Against Chicago Northwestern Railroad
In Fort Dodge on December 8 a jury awarded $4,400 to Henry Senf as administrator of Charles Locke’s estate after twelve hours of deliberation. Locke, a deaf mute artist from Fort Dodge, was killed stepping along a Chicago & Northwestern track in Algona while touring.

More Pay for Educators in Iowa Schools
Des Moines reports show nearly a million dollars more in teacher salaries over the two years ending June 30 with total raises and new positions raising overall pay by 1,260,606.89. Superintendent Riggs notes increased focus on teacher preparation, rising college and normal school enrollments, and county normal institutes shrinking while summer schools grow. Enrollment at three educational institutions rose about 27 percent from 1905-06 to 1907-08, with 6,594 to 7,112 enrolled. A large share of students attend graded and county schools, with substantial teacher hires in both sectors and a call for more rural teachers trained for agricultural instruction.
