Hon John G Carlisle spoke at a large 1892 campaign barbecue in Web ter City. Then speaker of the national house of representatives, he delivered a masterful address for the Democrats and impressed attendees with his personality and mind. He later served as secretary of the treasury under Cleveland and aided in supporting the administration.
A local thief unlocked the Williams Clothing House safe Monday afternoon and stole $219.85 from Saturday’s cash. Clerk was away and the thief appeared to know the layout. locals suspect a certain party but no direct evidence exists. Iowa voters reject a constitutional convention by 166 054 to 184 123 in the latest canvass. The anti saloon league campaigned for prohibition via constitutional change but the mulet law remains favored by a statewide majority. Hamilton county backed holding the convention by 354 in favor.
