Woolley Named Prohibition President at Chicago Convention
John G. Woolley of Illinois won the Prohibition party presidential nomination on the first ballot at Chicago on June 29 with Hale Johnson briefly nominated before withdrawing. Henry B. Metcalf of Rhode Island was chosen for vice president over Kas Kardon and Eaton. Metcalf led with 349 votes to 132 for Kardon and Eaton. The convention, attended by about 730 delegates from 44 states, adjourned sine die after formal notices to the candidates and a mass meeting in the armory featuring Woolley and Metcalf.
