Frost Reports Sparse in County With Minor Damage

Scattered frost touched roofs and fields in parts of the county with minimal reported damage. Weather forecasts call for a fair, warmer Tuesday and continued cool, dry conditions in Michie Town and nearby areas as low temperatures dip then rise.

26 Exasperated motorists report tire blowouts

A weekend surge of punctured tires on a road between Ripon and Fond du Lac ended today. Authorities attributed the blowouts to scrap iron. Pieces of sharp metal reportedly fell onto the road through a small opening in a truck body. At least 26 motorists complained to police.

Wisconsin forecast warns of partly cloudy skies with a cool tonight and scattered frost in lowlands. Tuesday looks warmer with a high likely in the low 60s and a low near 38, while yesterday’s high was 59 and low 37. Truman Asks to Hike Social Security Pay

President Truman asked Congress for a five point expansion of social security including at least a 50 percent rise in benefits for old age recipients and eligibility for women at 60. He proposed raising taxable earnings from 3,000 to 4,800 dollars, and boosting the tax to 1.4 percent starting January 1, 1949. He urged broader coverage for old age and survivors, unemployment, illness or disability, and stronger public assistance, with federal funding flexibly tied to state needs.

Five Die in State Accidents Over the Weekend

United Press reports at least five people died in Wisconsin over the weekend in traffic crashes train accident accidental shooting and a ditch cave in. David Mulstein 62 died when the car his wife drove crashed into a tree near Pewaukee. Barbara Schultz of Janesville and two Illinois men perished in a pair of crashes near a crossing east of Janesville. Irma Blawusch 83 was killed when she stumbled and was struck by a Milwaukee Road train in Madison. An 11 month old girl was shot by her cousin in Racine. Richard Peterson 11 found a .22 pistol and it discharged fatally wounding Peggy Peterson. George Klein 59 died in Sun Prairie when an eight foot sewer ditch caved in and buried him.

Lebanon Balks U S to Get Stern on Americans in Lebanon

The State Department will threaten Lebanon at the United Nations if it does not release 40 Americans removed from the Marine Corp. They were interned near Beirut after being labeled illegal immigrants linked to Israel. U S officials reported conditions at the barracks improved and that consular access existed. Separately Glenn Marsh goes on trial in Rockford for the murder of his partner's father after being acquitted in a prior slaying.

Local seniors to receive Carroll degrees Saturday in Waukesha

County Crashes Now Claim Six Lives in Month

The sixth traffic fatality of the month and the tenth this year occurred in Waukesha county during the weekend amid the year’s busiest highway travel. Two Milwaukeeans died on Highway 15 Friday night en route to Madison. David Mulstein, 62, died at the scene and his wife Ethel, 60, was hospitalized in fair condition with serious injuries after their car hit an oak near Pewaukee on Highway 16.

State County Board Group to Meet Here

Representatives of the Wisconsin County Boards associations and the second highway division will meet at the courthouse here on June 3 starting at 11 a m. Recent Charges Probed at WSB

Wisconsin school under scrutiny after staff accuse principal GW Brown of abusing an inmate May 15. Inquiries by Paul D. Yount, acting superintendent, follow testimonies from four staffers. Draft of 18 Year Olds Stymied in Committee

Washington. The Senate Armed Services Committee backed off plans to include 18 year olds in peacetime conscription. Chairman Chan Gurney introduced an amendment to remove 18 year olds from the draft bill, likely to pass on the Senate floor. The bill would still draft men 19 through 25, a provision favored by most House teachers and others.

Federal action taken on Lewis charges in NLRA complaint

Size Doesn’t Count Scooter Driver Is Fined

Floyd Patton and other drivers faced fines as municipal court enforced licensing on power driven vehicles. Patton, 35, of 110 Motor Hill Terrace, testified his scooter test run led to charges for operating without a license and resulted in a $335 fine plus costs. Other cases included Bernard Kalvelage, 23, fined $100 and costs after his license was revoked last December, and Helen Dikeman, 41, fined $50 and costs with a one year license revocation following a May 22 drunken driving arrest.

All Lodges in State Attend Elks Meet
