Two war veterans Ervin Bruner of Madison and Gaylord Nelson of Clear Lake filed a petition with Attorney General John Martin to seek Supreme Court permission to stop the fall elections for state senators and assemblymen. A Milwaukee man, Charles Heider, 50, was seriously injured in a weekend crash when the car carrying him and his son veered off Highway 41 and struck a telephone pole. Heider suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg and was treated at Memorial hospital. Heider’s son George, 23, was uninjured as the Plymouth’s top was sheared off. Authorities said oncoming headlights blinded the driver as he left the road. In four county and four city crashes nearby, no one was reported seriously hurt. In other news, Enrico Cardinal Gasparri, 75, papal nuncio to Brazil from 1916 to 1925, died early Monday of angina pectoris.
