In Oshkosh the Wisconsin state GOP endorsed a full slate for the August primary, rejecting three incumbents including U.S. Senator Robert LaFollette and Governor Walter Goodland. Judge Joseph McCarthy led the slate against LaFollette, while Delbert Kenny laged for governor but fell short on ballots. Oscar Rennebohm and other incumbents won endorsements amid a crowded field and shifting alliances.
Republican backed ticket lists U. S. Senator judge Joseph McCarthy of Appleton as senator, Delbert J. Kenny of West Bend as governor, Oscar Renne bohm of Madison as governor, John M. Smith of Shell Lake as state treasurer, Fred R. Zimmerman of Milwaukee as secretary of state, and Herman C. Runge of Sheboygan as attorney general.
The Wauke tha Jayezes collected sixteen state honors at the weekend convention in Stevens Point, winning the Henry Giessenbier memorial trophy as the top JCC in Wisconsin and fifteen other awards. Sheboygan placed second with eight awards, and Waukesha took four firsts, three seconds, and three thirds across seventeen project categories. Merlin Birk led as local president, earning second in outstanding chapter president while Giessenbier trophy honors last year’s activities. Fire calls interrupted Sunday and Monday at nearby residences with false smoke alarms and a chimney fire at 333 Arlington Street.
Waukesha county delegates backed James R. Law for governor on the informal ballot while Goodland won on the decisive ballot. The delegation supported Glenn Davis for the second district rules post and Gavin McKerrow for lieutenant governor. They voted against endorsing a slate of state candidates, and endorsed Julins P. Hail for U.S. senator.
A Chicago motorcyclist Raymond J. Grosser age 28 and a young woman believed to be his wife died instantly near Muskego when their motorcycle left CTH A hit a rock and a ditch. Grosser was thrown headfirst against an elm. the woman about 25 was hurled 30 feet into a farmer’s herd. No other vehicles were involved and cause of loss of control remains undetermined. Seven others injured in weekend county accidents.
Dr Bernard Bell of Chicago warned Sunday night that a world atomic war could occur within ten years and kill tens of millions of Americans. Speaking at Carroll College, he urged education and moral reform as the only defense, noting three key education agencies the home church and school.
Ralph M. Immell announced his candidacy for governor and said he plans to resign as adjutant general of Wisconsin. He has held the post since 1923 and has been on military leave since going on active Army duty in 1941. Brig. Gen. Alvin A. Kuechenmeister serves as acting adjutant general. Immell, 51, allied with LaFollette and the Progressive wing. the new Progressive Republican association is undecided on backing him. He is UW Law School graduate with a Madison practice and has chaired the state conservation commission and WPA program, and directed bank stabilization during the Depression.
Council to act Tuesday night to ban parking on the west side of Grand avenue from Wisconsin to the Five Points to ease safety hazards and downtown congestion. Alderman Howard Newman will introduce the ordinance. final passage requires three readings unless rules are suspended.
Four Burlington Railroad officials testified before a DuPage county grand jury investigating the Naperville train crash of April 25 that killed 45. The witnesses included Way, Tizzard, Trambie, and Milar, who oversaw test runs near the accident site. Engineer Blaine remains hospitalized with a fractured skull and is slated to testify when recovered. Crews of the two trains are set to testify Tuesday, per State’s Attorney Lee Daniels.
A C 47 transport plane departed Peiping at noon Monday bound for Changchun to evacuate five American correspondents stranded since the fall of the Manchurian capital to the Communists.
City engineer Walter Dick said the cleanup campaign was going first rate as a record load of trash was expected to be picked up before Tuesday night. By Monday noon several truckloads had been collected, with about 20 loads anticipated. Dump trucks were clearing rubbish along streets north of Broadway and Madison on Monday, with Tuesday’s work planned for areas to the south. Ashes and garbage are excluded from the annual spring cleanup.

Nathan Lockney of Waukesha and brother of Henry Lockney of Waukesha died at his Knoxville Tennessee home Sunday. Born in Waukesha, he was Soo Line railroad station operator and at death served as Knoxville L and W One superintendent. Surviving are his widow the former King Chadley of Waupaca and brother Ira Lockney of Walla Walla Washington. Funeral services and burial will be held in Knoxville.
Nellie Martin aged 63, a 10 year resident of Waukesha, died Saturday at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She leaves three sisters Mrs Walter Donovan Julia Martin and Mrs Robert Smith, six nieces and two nephews. Funeral at St Joseph Catholic church with burial at St Mary's Cemetery Greenfield. Visitation Tuesday after 3 p.m. at Arthur D Caspar funeral home. Parish vigil Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Police broke up a public park poker game at Cutler park Sunday. Four youths Tegge 18 Galoff Jr 21 Markle 21 and Kline 17 were fined 2 plus costs each. A separate reckless driving case fined Sinkovitz 25 twenty five dollars. Cherfink and Orgas paid five dollars for disorderly conduct after a dispute behind Schmuki's meat market.
Investigators continued the Kirner murder probe with a weeklong search for a clue after a 1,000 mile pursuit of a suspect fizzled. A 40-year-old veteran admitted lying about ties to a hospital discharge and revealed a tavern brawl alibi. Waukesha authorities awaited lab results on a jack handle and wrench found in the Kirner car as fingerprints yielded no suspects.
A 61 year old farmer from Waukesha route 5 was found dead in a ditch beside Swamp road Monday morning after likely falling from misjudging his steps. Coroner Alvin H. Johnson ruled shock as probable cause. Dobke left Sunday afternoon to visit Brookfield and was found by his son Albert around 7 am.
Forecasters expect mainly fair conditions over Wisconsin with cooler temperatures tonight and again Tuesday. Cooler tonight across the northwest and north central regions, with continued cool readings Tuesday. Southwest and south central areas experience cooling tonight and Tuesday night. Local hourly temperatures show low 40s to mid 50s with gradual warming.
