A car struck by a train at the Hy. DE crossing sent a hospital patient after the bowsered vehicle landed on its top about 74 feet from the crossing. Debris sprayed 25 feet while witnesses noted a fire department truck narrowly avoided the collision. The train continued about 200 feet before stopping. the crossing is known locally as a blind crossing due to limited east side visibility.
Maurice Bullion, 80, of Mukwonago, a lifelong farmer, died at his home on route 1. Survived by his wife Anenee Rober and one son Walter, both of Mukwonago, along with two mothers, several siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at Guequierre Funeral Home with Alfred Davis officiating. Burial at air Knoll Cemetery. Body in state after 3 p.m. Sunday.
John F. Kane, a special assistant to Secretary of the Army Stevens, resigns citing lack of full fighting support amid Sen. McCarthy scrutiny. Kane, in a letter, says resignation partly due to health but states Stevens has not resigned and intends to stay. Kane also notes discontent with Army leadership while tracing fault up to Deputy Secretary and Defense leaders.
Rev Farnham urges personal action to heal world ills. He extols Albert Schweitzer for selfless service in Africa and argues God uses ordinary individuals to advance his Kingdom. He says you plus God are a majority and calls readers to become the cutting edge of divine spirit.
A Brookfield committee unveils a plan to form a fourth class city covering about 15 square miles with roughly 9,000 residents. If approved, the area would exclude Elm Grove but include most of the eastern half of Brookfield township, aiming for a population near 15,000 and greater county board representation.
In municipal court four motorists faced fines for traffic violations in Oconomowoc. Merle E. Binger, 41, Water town, fined $5 for speeding on Feb 20. Walter Krug, 24, of 724 E Main St Waukesha, and Dale Stark, 23, of Waukesha Route 2, forfeited $14 bail each on speeding charges. arrested Feb 28. Tim Wilkinson, 16, 731 Lake Rd Oconomowoc, fined $5 and had license suspended 30 days for a stop light violation on Feb 21.
Police seized an arsenal in a deserted Manhattan store on West 99th Street and arrested two Cuban men, Mario Cruz and Roberto Acevedo, for violating weapons laws. Detectives found 27 large anti tank guns 24 ammo cases 25 garand rifles four ammo cases and 250 hand grenades. The two were linked to an exile group opposing Batista. Eight others were questioned and released.
Waukesha County park board heard a request from William Kutschenreuter to sell the Okauchee dam on the Oconomowoc river to the county. Officials warned a break could flood Oconomowoc and discussed parking, bathhouses, and beach restrictions. The board tasked Nelson to study the matter and report next meeting.

A propane gas blast at the Waukesha Motor Works vaporization building injured two workers, both in good condition at Waukesha Memorial hospital. The 10 by 12 foot concrete block structure was destroyed, with damage estimated around $1,000. Plant officials cited no clear cause, noting propane gas is highly explosive while firefighters contained the blaze. Residents reported a ground shake and loud explosion but adjacent property remained undamaged.
