Uthus Fired as Head of Wisconsin School for Boys
The Wisconsin Welfare Board dismissed T. R. Uthus, head of the Wisconsin School for Boys since 1942, effective June 30, after a three month probe into charges of mismanagement and brutality. Welfare Director A. W. Bayley cited five reasons, including rule violations and lack of self control. Assistant Attorney General William Platz released the 800 page report, and three other administrators remain in post pending further action.

Dog's Vigil at Well Saves Master After Imprisonment
Dale H. Wilson survived a week trapped in a 12 foot well after a night walk with his cockerspaniel Penney. The dog stayed by the edge five days whimpering and peering down as Wilson crawled and begged for rescue. The dog’s actions helped prompt the girlfriend to fetch a rope and free him at a naval hospital.

Parole Opposed for Three Sailors in 1946 Murder Case
Former District Attorney Leon L Brenner urged the Wisconsin parole department to deny parole to three sailors convicted of second degree murder in Waukesha County Court. Robert Wayne Payton Jack Lyle Braddock and Charlea Lewis Cooper were sentenced June 19 1948 to 14 10 and 25 years for killing Kenneth Keiner a West Allis veteran who died after a ride near Dousman. They have completed two years of their term in Waupun State Prison.

The Weber concert band will headline the postponed Thursday evening season opener at the Cutler park bandshell in Waukesha. Mayor Honeyager and Rev. Henry Woyahn will speak. Mona Woyahn Schloesser performs three songs. The 40 piece ensemble, directed by Fred Sperl, is sponsored by Weber Brewing Co. and the Recreation Department.

A 12 hour blaze caused by defective wiring razed the feed and cattle barn on Arthur J. Roets farm along Lisbon road north of Oconomowoc. Loss estimated at $8000 with livestock saved. only half the barn insured and rebuild plans uncertain. Fire department extinguished flames by 9 p.m. yesterday.

Fined Fifty Dollars for Drunken Driving
A Wauleshaman resident Eson L. Malcow, 37, of 925 Highland Ave, was fined 50 dollars and costs by Judge Allen D. Young in municipal court after pleading guilty to drunken driving. His license was revoked for a year. Malcow's accident in Westowne left his wife Lila, 32, with a injured left leg. he drove east on Highway 13 and tried a left turn near Portz garage, colliding head on. Mrs. Malcow was hospitalized briefly. The crash occurred at 41:30 pm yesterday.

The Port Players opened the summer season at Oconomowochlah school to about 200 in a half-full auditorium. Their staging of Life With Father drew cursory laughter and a lethargic reception. Helen Kingston, recently back from Europe as a USO performer, starred as Vinnie the mother. Wendell Whitten played the father Clarence Day and Priscella Towers impressed as Cora the old maid. Three Day children were portrayed by Robert Merriman Fred Reuther and Mark Nammacher.
