The House moved to adjournment with a one year extension of the reciprocal trade law approved and sent to the White House. Debates opened on the 1 through 25 draft bill as wage tensions and foreign aid topics surfaced while tax repeal wrangles delayed Senate action.
A Waukesha county Democrats meeting promised a full slate from state assembly to precinct committeemen in 58 precincts. Only 15 attended but 13 delegates and 13 alternates to the state Democratic convention were elected for Madison June 26-27, with further county office and assembly candidates to be decided June 28.
House armed services chief Walter G Andrews estimated the peacetime draft could induct about 400000 men in the first year and said the bill would pass soon as debates began. Senate fights over tax repeal for oleomargarine and other items continued amid committee wrangles on VOA broadcasts and atomic funds. A separate Senate committee OKd a 65000000 UN loan for a New York HQ as the draft cleared its first test in the House with a 329 to 62 vote and Senate approval already given to a similar measure. A milk standards hearing set for tomorrow in the courthouse will exam proposed production and marketing rules.
Wisconsin forecast shows cooler air tonight especially in the south and central areas with a slight reading of temperatures near 44 at 7 am. Wednesday brings generally mild to cool conditions with some variation in temperature from yesterday’s high of 43 to a tranquil overall trend.
City council to consider a plan to sell part of Silurlat park to the YMCA for a 500000 building and preserve the rest for recreation. A minority report by Theodore Nigbor is expected. A referendum may be proposed at the September primary. appraisals will set fair market value per City Attorney Hippenmeyer. The Youth Center, Inc remains unaffected and Al Leliston will be seated to fill the vacancy left by Harry Franson.
President Truman campaigned through the southwest stopping in San Bernardino where a crowd greeted him with a dozen fresh eggs from a local producer. He joked that they do not throw them at him and quipped about taking them to Taft as he mocked the Republican rival.
A new trial for two Waukesha men charged with assault to do great bodily harm was ordered for Sept 8 after a jury could not reach a verdict following more than four hours of deliberation. Solomon Gomez and Epifanio Martinez faced the May 7 stabbing of Benjamin Melendes near the General Molten foundry entrance. Martinez posted 1500 bail. Gomez had been released on 1500 bail weeks earlier. The same day Northern Limited was fined 100 dollars for failing to register its vehicle. Hudson Motor Car and CIO Auto Workers reached a wage deal granting 13 cents an hour for 17000 workers over two years.
Frost covered Point area and northern Wisconsin with lows around 25 to 45 degrees while a frost warning spread. Waukesha saw temps dip to 45 then rise to 63 by afternoon as frost hit central and northern regions. Forecast calls for cooler, partly cloudy conditions and persistent chilly weather through the week. The cold snap disrupted outdoor activities as Red Cross swimming lessons pressed on in 60s despite bitter wind from the northeast.

Prague reports that Antonin Zapotocky, a Communist leader, formed a new Czechoslovak cabinet after Eduard Benes resigned. President Gottwald administered the oath to Zapotocky, 64, and the new ministers, with Communists filling thirteen of twenty-two posts and holding complete control.
Waukesha youths aged 25 to 28 are urged to attend a Youth Center meeting to plan operation of the center and seek Madison support. The plan includes digging a partial basement and laying footings once a permit arrives. State approval is awaited for the $12,000 temporary building, with delivery in about four weeks.
A large horned owl allegedly killed 24 half grown chickens in a Sussex area farm coop without direct contact. Elmer Schmidt sought bounty but County Clerk Richard L. Sylvester said Wisconsin law pays no bounty for such damage. only listed wildlife bounties apply and local governments may set theirs, but none in Waukesha County currently cover this matter.
A Milwaukee crowd gathered at Cutler park for Elk Club Flag Day ceremonies. Judge Roland Steinle spoke on freedom and peace while condemning communism. Elks Scholarship chair Frank Ward awarded top students Velma Taylor Patricia Hurangz and Barbara Thomas. The Elk Band and American Legion color guard led the parade to the bandshell. Rev G Aubrey Yount delivered the invocation, Assemblyman David L Dancy sang, and Mayor Edward Honeyager spoke.
The Waukesha County Farm Bureau Supply Co-Operative to hold its first postwar picnic Thursday at Swartz Orchards, southeast of Waukesha. Features include songs by the Plantationers sextette and speeches by William Kasakaitas of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation and Gavin McKerran of Golden Guernsey. Entertainment, contests for all, and 4-H ball games planned. attendees should bring their own plain dinner. event draws large local turnout.
CMAWAGU UP wage committees for the Brotherhoods of Railroad Trainmen and Railway Conductors agreed to demand a 25 cent per hour increase from major railroads before August 1. The move affects about 225,000 conductors, trainmen, and yard workers who last year received a 15 14 cent raise. Presidents A F Whitney and Harry W Fraser announced the plan after a one day committee meeting. The ultimatum will be officially presented to 132 Class I railroads on July 1.
Eleanor Southcott executive secretary of the Waukesha county Red Cross chapter will represent the chapter at the national convention in San Francisco June 1 to 24. Basil O Connor national Red Cross president will give the keynote address and review the past year while outlining future steps and civilian protection proposals for the August Stockholm conference. General Mark W Clark and Mrs Stuart Chevalier are among other speakers at the event.
Mildred Leskovitz, 32, of 734 Linden Ave, was granted a divorce from Matthew Leskovitz, 38, of Franklin Park, by County Court Judge Young. She receives a proper title to the home and $10 weekly child support for their eight year old daughter. The couple married in Abilene, Texas on April 5, 1938 and separated January 1, 1947.
