Five Milwaukeeans survive sinking on Big Muskego Lake
A group of five, including Robert Lacher 22 and his sister Batty 20, were rescued after their 10 foot skiff sank a mile off Sandy Beach on Basa Bay. The women could not swim, but two rowboats and a speed boat aided by holiday boaters saved them with Mrs Lacher screaming for help. All survived, with Mrs Shupe treated for mild shock.

Norfolk reports 21 marines missing and presumed drowned after a 20 man liberty launch overturned in Hampton Roads. Navy later revised the toll to 106 drowned among marines and sailors, as rescue continued through the night amid heavy rain and darkness. A Mediterranean task force had been due to sail but delays followed. The launch carried a normal load of about 90 and was not deemed overloaded. An investigation will be held, with no charges expected against the officer in command.

Believe Kids Start Chicken House Fire In Waukesha
Five fires were reported by the Waukesha fire department today. They answered a 9:55 pm call yesterday and found an unused chicken house ablaze behind Herman J Welch residence at 127 Randall St. The fire is believed started by several youngsters. This morning another fire was fought at 819 W St Paul. A roof fire at the General Malleable foundry was extinguished at 2:20 pm. roof damage amount not known. Fire at stockyards area caused extensive damage estimates ranging from 400 900 to 750 000 with all equipment insured.
