Father appeals in radio plea to save kidnapped Suzanne Degnan
James Degnan, father of 9 year old Suzanne Degnan, appeals hourly over a radio network for the kidnapper to return his daughter after Suzanne was abducted from her bedroom for a $20,000 ransom. A note demanded $420,000 in $3 bills and he says he burned the ransom note after following the kidnapper’s directions. Police investigated the note and the break in remains under a developing case.

The city board of public works will forward all bids to the federal public housing administration in Chicago for award. The Chemers firm had worked on the halted Waukesha project until recently. Truman’s Latham Act amendment funds 160 million for veterans housing and the city also gains 102 emergency housing units from Sheboygan for local sites.

Deaths in Tornado Increase in the South
A week end storm system brought tornadoes across Mississippi and Arkansas killing at least 37 people and injuring many more. Towns including Coila Holly Ridge Indianola Sunflower Rolling Fork Weathman and Lake Village suffered extensive damage. Two killed at Coila three at Lake Village two near Sunflower and one near Indianola. Texas reported 28 deaths from Friday night tornadoes with 725 homeless. Damages and hospitalizations tallied. weather bureau noted a turbulent storm system from a warm air mass meeting a cold front.

No Accidents Sunday as Motorists Flock to Roads
Sunday brought sunshine and free pavement as motorists flocked to open roads but the sheriff’s department reported no accidents. The sole incident occurred Saturday night near Milwaukee county line on US 16 when Beatrice Blattner, 22, Centuria, was injured in a collision involving Aitken McMyre, 22, St. Croix Falls, and Ben Huisman, 56, Pewaukee, with Blattner treated at Waukesha Hospital.

Conduct Paper Drive Despite Heavy Rain
A soaking Saturday waste paper drive yielded about 40 tons loaded into two railroad freight cars. Roy Oak, salvage chairman, notes paper stock is tight. another drive is planned for the Saturday after Easter April 27. Over 125 Boy Scouts and volunteers collected waste paper to help fund the Long Lake Scout camp.
